[ACCI-CAVIE] Just six months after its launch, micro-insurer aYo Côte d’Ivoire was named “Best SME in Digital Insurance” at the fourth annual AVATAR-AFRICA awards, which recognize companies for their contribution to the development of technology in Africa. aYo won the award for its innovative use of technology to make insurance more accessible in Ivory Coast.
The company allows consumers to purchase hospital and life coverage using their cell phones and mobile money. The CEO of aYo Intermediaries Cote d’Ivoire, Jean-Charles N’Gotta, said the award proves the company is “on the right track” in its mission to create a world where everyone has access to affordable, quality insurance.
“With our easy-to-use and affordable solution, we offer insurance to everyone in Ivory Coast. We estimate that less than 2% of the Ivorian population is insured. With aYo, people of all income levels can have peace of mind at an affordable cost to help them cover their hospital bills due to an accident or illness, or their funeral expenses if the unexpected happens and they pass away,” he said.
